Happy New Year!

We rang in 2016 in Colorado with some of our most special friends, the Jacobson clan.  They are also widely & most popularly known as “Hannah’s family”, but it was sans Hannah – who is now officially employed and playing the part of a responsible adult (no fun at all, right?!).

I will certainly come through on the snow pics, but had to work my way backwards, starting with the ‘toasts’!

Cheers from Asher and Selah, also joined by Mommy, Kelly (Hannah’s mom), and Emree (Hannah’s goddaughter and Kelly’s niece).  Not pictured are the rest of the crew toasting NY time (we were worried not everyone would make it to midnight Mountain time):  Mr.Nels (Hannah’s Dad), Daddy, Nels David (Hannah’s brother), and Jonathan (Selah’s new buddy who lives with the Jacobson’s).  What a fun mellow night we had, and Selah and I (& Kelly, Nels David, & Jonathan) even made it to midnight to view the fireworks off Pike’s Peak.  Barely, but it counts if you’re up past midnight, and we did it!
Cheers to a happy, healthy 2016 full of love and light.  I’ll leave you with a picture of a ‘toast’ I liked on Instagram yesterday (well, that and a picture of my adorable – yes, I’m biased of course – son downing his sparkling cider like a champ).

Frozen on Ice

Last night Selah, Grandma, and I headed back out and drive to Long Beach to catch Disney on Ice Frozen show at the Long Beach Arena.  Although I was dreading the travel since we’ve been driving/flying/generally away-from-home, it turned out amazing and I’m glad we went.  I’ve always wanted to see one of their ice skating shows (I had heard it was great), and I bought tickets months ago for the three of us.  And it did not dissapoint.

The ‘set’ (not sure if that’s what you call it on ice, but regardless, the props and setup and such…) was amazing.  I tried to catch pictures, but of course they don’t do the size/scale justice.  The most impressive was the snow monster who has to be at least two stories high.

But as always, rivaling the show, for this mommy, the real prize is seeing Selah light up.  At intermission she needed to ‘practice’ her ice dancing moves at the top of the stadium.  I tried to catch a few pictures while also reigning her in when people tried to get through!  😉. I love the uninhibited dancing – if I could bottle up the innocence to save it for her forever, I would!

We also walked away with a special Anna/Elsa souvenir cup (with shave ice) thanks to Grandma.  And no thanks to Disney’s spectacular marketing efforts to target every little person in the place for all the cash their parents can muster, we luckily only ended up leaving with that cup plus an Olaf mug to take to Asher who got left behind with Dad at the homestead.

What a special night though – thanks, Grandma for making the trek with us and putting up with our tired souls to cap off a perfect Christmas break!  Next up – snow pics!  (The ‘real’ kind!  Disney made it snow in the arena, which was impressive, but Selah wasn’t fooled after learning about the real stuff in Colorado from the Jacobson’s!). ⛄️❤️
